STEVE AOKI DROPS ‘KOLONY’ FEATURING COLLABORATIONS WITH 2 CHAINZ AND MIGOS
Date:
World-renowned DJ and Producer Steve Aoki dropped his fourth studio album, Kolony, via Ultra Records on Friday. The 10-track celeb-packed LP features two mega-collaborations with 2 Chainz and rap group Migos. Alongside house artist DVBBS, “Without U” feat. 2 Chainz, the lead single off the album, is a slower hip-hop track with slick 2 Chainz rhymes and a creative beat drop. The second single off of the album, released June 16th, “Night Call” feat. Lil Yachty and Migos “call[s] all soldiers” to hit the dance floor. Aoki performed the hit during his July 18th set at his New York City fashion show promoting his Dim Mak clothing brand. “[The album’s] name [Kolony] has echoes of what Aoki was conveying with his clothes; banding together and forming something unified in the face of the unexpected,” Vogue noted. Additionally, the album highlights Aoki’s electronic fusion with the hip-hop world as Billboard stated that “…the electric neon textures come through with a subtlety that shows Aoki’s growth.”
Apart from his work with Aoki, 2 Chainz released his new album Pretty Girls Like Trap Music and was most recently featured on Reservoir producer Statik Selektah’s new track “Man of the Hour.” Meanwhile, Migos were recently announced as a supporting act for Justin Bieber on the upcoming Purpose tour and are riding a high from their success on their charting“Slide” collaboration with Frank Ocean and Calvin Harris off of Harris’ album Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1.
