UPDATED: JOEY ALEXANDER’S ‘FAVORITE THINGS’ INCLUDES STRAYHORN’S ‘LUSH LIFE’
Date:
Pre-teen piano prodigy and jazz phenomenon Joey Alexander has released his debut album My Favorite Things. The record features a variety of jazz standards ranging from “Over The Rainbow” to the Billy Strayhorn classic “Lush Life”, which, incidentally, Strayhorn composed at age sixteen.
Joey Alexander’s ability and musicality are nothing short of astounding for any artist, let alone one of his short years. Alexander says his “playing comes from the heart, not from technique or anything… and that’s jazz”.
UPDATE 5/13/15: A day after its release, My Favorite Things tops the iTunes Jazz Albums chart, besting releases from such names as Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, and Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga.
