STRAYHORN EXHIBIT OPENS IN NEW ROCHELLE CELEBRATING ‘AN ILLUSTRATED LIFE’ BOOK
Date:
Strayhorn Centennial celebrations continue in New Rochelle where Strayhorn: An Illustrated Life, an art exhibit honoring the famed composer will be on display through November 25 in the new wing of the New Rochelle High School. The exhibit, a program of the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence, will also feature a screening of the award winning documentary, Billy Strayhorn: Lush Life, directed by Robert Levi. The film is the only documentary to win an Emmy, Peabody, and Screen Actors Guild Award.
The Illustrated Life exhibit is based on a new book of the same title, curated by Strayhorn’s niece, and includes never before seen photographs, artwork and personal artifacts from his home.
