SHURA RELEASES NEW SINGLE & ANNOUNCES UPCOMING ALBUM ‘FOREVHER’
Date:
British singer-songwriter Shura dropped her latest single “religion (u can lay your hands on me),” today. The funky 80’s inspired synth-pop love song highlights religious iconography through clever wordplay, as Shura croons “I want to consecrate your body, turn the water into wine.” Billboard further describes the single as referring to “the constant yearning caused by long distance.”
A tempting music video accompanies the track, showcasing the singer dressed in white alongside a parcel of lovestruck nuns. Stereogum notes that the video “highlights Shura’s lyrical themes of mediation on queer desire that explore the concept of sex being like a religion.”
“religion (u can lay your hands on me)” follows her smooth single “BKLYNLDN,” released in March. Both singles are a part of Shura’s upcoming album, forevher, due out August 16.
