RESERVOIR SIGNS SINGER & COMPOSER NICKI WELLS
Date:
Reservoir is pleased to enter an exclusive co-publishing agreement with British vocalist and songwriter-composer Nicki Wells. Wells, who is currently at work finishing her debut album, is managed and produced by award-winning Reservoir producer-composer Nitin Sawhney.
Nicki Wells is a rising independent artist becoming known for her unique mastery of vocal technique. As a singer, Wells’ vocal versatility is unparalleled, allowing her to alternate between disparate genres like Indian classical and American gospel with ease. To date, this skill has afforded her opportunities with Ivor Novello-nominated collaborator and mentor Nitin Sawhney, whom Wells has joined as a featured vocalist on three of his acclaimed studio albums, tours to prestigious venues like London’s Royal Albert Hall and Sydney Opera House, and his internationally visible BBC documentary projects The Human Planetand Monsoon.
Wells’ own composition work includes an original score for English playwright Tanika Gupta’s theatrical adaptation of Great Expectations and music for contemporary dancer Aakash Odedra’s Royal Opera House show, Murmur.
At Reservoir, Wells will work closely with SVP of Creative and A&R, Spek, in the company’s New York City headquarters, and Reverb Music Managing Director Annette Barrett out of London.
“Anyone who hears Nicki’s diverse vocal stylings is immediately captivated,” Barrett comments. “She’s a unique talent, and we look forward to a very successful collaboration.”
Wells also anticipates a fruitful new relationship, saying, “I am so thrilled to be joining Reservoir and Reverb. I feel like I have been adopted into an encouraging and supportive family, and I’m excited about the creative possibilities that we will explore together.”
Immediate plans will see the artist finish production on her full-length debut. The release will feature Wells’ signature vocal inflections, Sawhney’s lush soundscapes, and musical influences ranging from Joni Mitchell to early Massive Attack.
