RESERVOIR SIGNS MULTI-INSTRUMENTAL WRITER-PRODUCER AND RECORDING ARTIST JOEL TAYLOR TO A WORLDWIDE PUBLISHING DEAL
Date:
Reservoir announces the signing of multi-instrumental writer-producer and recording artist Joel Taylor to a worldwide publishing deal. The deal includes the rights to Taylor’s entire catalog of works, including upcoming single “Little By Little.”
The Australian-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter has built a steady following of fans thanks to his special blend of soulful, rootsy, picturesque Americana. His forthcoming single “Little By Little,” due out this Friday, is a feel-good track about finding a sense of belonging and planting your roots. In addition to co-writing, and co-producing the cut, the multi-instrumental Taylor undertook all performance duties including, piano, guitar, bass, organ, synthesizers, percussion, and more, in addition to singing every vocal part and recording it all himself. “Little By Little” reaffirms Glide Magazine’s proclamation of Taylor as one of “the new and exciting faces in the singer/songwriter world,” and Popdust’s dubbing him a “masterfully talented singer and songwriter.”
Born into a musical family, Taylor learned to play piano from his grandfather who was a founding member of one of Australia’s first rock bands, Col Joy & The Joy Boys. Fresh out of high school, he relocated from Sydney to chase his dreams in Los Angeles, fatefully renting a room from renowned French guitar maker Trussart. During this time, he worked the local piano bar circuit and honed his songwriting craft, drawing inspiration from any one of the famous patrons to pass through Trussart’s studio including Hall & Oats, Billy Gibbons, ZZ Top, and Charlie Sexton.
For his first release, 2017’s “Two Sides,” Taylor delivered a piano-driven pop ballad which made a Taylor-fan of Hollywood actress Courteney Cox, who directed the accompanying music video. She explained to Variety at the time, “a friend of mine introduced me to Joel during a musical night at my house where friends and visitors gather to play music. That’s when I heard Joel sing and play and realized how talented he is.” Cox later directed the music video for Taylor’s 2018 playful pop cut “Give Myself Away.” Showing a broad range of songwriting capabilities, Taylor followed up with the deeply personal, gospel-inspired single “Moment’s Notice,” which tackled important themes of family, abuse, and resilience. Effortlessly switching gears, Taylor dropped the ‘80s-inspired “Easy Tiger” last year.
“Reservoir was just the sort of home I hoped to find: a modern, dynamic company that genuinely loves music and packs a punch. When James Cheney from Reservoir and I first met, we immediately clicked, and I knew we would have a great working relationship. He is a true music lover and knows how to get the right creatives together. I’m excited and grateful to work with James and the whole team,” said Taylor.
Added Reservoir VP of Creative James Cheney, “What makes Joel so special and unique is that he’s an equally adept lyricist, producer, and musician, on top of being an all-around great guy. I’m excited for people to discover what a star he is and I’m so happy that he chose to take his career to the next level with Reservoir.”
