Let’s set the scene. You’re cooped up on the plane, mentally preparing for the long flight ahead of you. Your arms ache from dragging your overweight suitcases around the massive airport. The pilot just announced that you have an hour delay on the tarmac. You can’t sleep and you’re just ready to be in the air. So, you turn on Spotify with hopes of finding the right songs to calm you down. We’ve got the perfect playlist to put you in vacation mode.
“Let Me Go” – Hailee Steinfeld and Alesso feat. Florida Georgia Line and watt
Co-written by Reservoir songwriter Ali Tamposi, the long-awaited Hailee Steinfeld and Alesso track, released via Republic Records, features an up-tempo beat, unique electric chorus, and fantastic cohorts. Though the track’s been dubbed as the latest break-up anthem, play this tune for feels of independence and happiness; the songstress details her newfound confidence after getting out of a bad relationship with lyrics “I’ve been hopin’ someone will love you, let me go.” There’s something for everyone on the track: EDM/Tropical House meets pop with a country twang. Florida Georgia Line brings their country flair and Alesso’s beats will keep you listening on repeat. The lyrics will take you into the singer’s world, and out of your own head – perfect for a long flight!
“It’s a Vibe” – 2 Chainz feat. Ty Dolla $ign, Trey Songz & Jhené Aiko
The second single off of Atlanta-based rapper 2 Chainz’s fourth studio album, Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, “It’s a Vibe” literally gives off good vibes. It’s a playful, electric-guitar based track with a chorus that will just make you smile and want to sing along. Give it a listen and 2 Chainz will have you dreaming of drinks on the beach by the first chorus!
“Holiday” – Calvin Harris feat. Takeoff, Snoop Dogg and John Legend
In this all-star collab off of Calvin Harris’ funky, R&B infused album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, Migos member Takeoff takes us on an adventure placing us firmly in vacation mode with lines like “Say the place and we go where you want to go / she say Rodeo, I’m thinking ‘bout Toyko” while the chorus reads “Let’s make every day a holiday / What you wanna do?” leaving all options open for fun and new experiences! Meanwhile, the bouncy beat and chill melody make it a captivating listen.
“Comfortable” – Bebe Rexha feat. Kranium
Sit back, relax, and get “Comfortable!” In this Ali Tamposi-penned track off of Rexha’s latest project, All Your Fault Pt 2., the singer details getting all too complacent in a relationship and struggling to find excitement with her significant other. Sounds like she needs a vacation! The melodic electric guitar strums gently in the background while Kranium’s smooth rap style provides an easy listen. As an added bonus, the track’s lyrics will make you put all of your own relationship drama behind you as Rexha describes hers.
“Ready to Go” – Hurts
Hurts serves some upbeat, funky fresh vibes on their latest cut “Ready to Go,” co-written by Reservoir/ Reverb Music songwriter David Sneddon of songwriting duo The Nexus. The piano and electric-guitar led track has a jazzy feel to back up the captivating melody. When you’ve been sitting on the tarmac for far too long, you’ll find yourself echoing the song’s title–you are “Ready to Go”!
“I Get the Bag” – Gucci Mane feat. Migos
This newly released Gucci Mane track featuring Migos is completely relatable for the airport – you literally need to “get the bag[s]” at baggage claim and better hope the airline didn’t lose them! The lyrics on the cut include the classic Migos one-liners and phrases we’ve come to know and love like “drop top but you feel the heat” and “skrt skrt.” Added bonus: the new music video features the Migos men chilling poolside, perfect for a relaxing week off of work!
“Touch the Sky” – Kanye West feat. Lupe Fiasco
This 2006 hit off of Kanye West’s second studio album Late Registration is the perfect combination of catchy, throwback and lots of fun! Produced by Reservoir’s Just Blaze, the song includes lyrics “I gotta testify / Come up in the spot lookin’ extra fly / ‘fore the day I die, I’mma touch the sky” which exude confidence and determination. Meanwhile, the plane’s just taken off, headed skyward so close you can literally touch the sky. Better take out your camera and get that takeoff pic for your Insta!
“Havana” – Camila Cabello feat. Young Thug
“Havana” feat. Young Thug is a bouncy, yet sultry track with a funky piano beat and vacation-y lyrics that will totally put your mind at ease. Think palm trees and the beach! The singer discusses her Cuban roots on the track, leaving “half of [her] heart in Havana” and a recent summer fling in Atlanta. Co-written by Reservoir’s Ali Tamposi, one of the masterminds behind Kygo and Selena Gomez’s “It Ain’t Me,” the track was recently announced as Camila’s latest single off of her debut forthcoming album due out this Fall!
“Either Way” – Snakehips and Anne Marie feat. Joey Bada$$
From the smooth rhythm to Anne Marie’s soft vocals to “Land of the Free” rapper Joey Bada$$’ chilled out yet rapid fire rhymes, this song is the epitome of laid back, perfect for a relaxing flight. Furthermore, lyrics discuss a sense of non-committal plans and open mindedness, two things you definitely want to have while on vacation – after all, who really wants to plan out their entire trip when “you [could] decide where [you] go if ya wanna” and go “either way.” Joey teaches us to relax and take things in stride on the track, perfect for a carefree trip!
“Passport Home” – JP Cooper
Every single traveler can relate to the title of this track – can’t lose that passport or you’re not getting home! This melodic, slower-tempo JP Cooper single, co-written by Reservoir/Reverb Music’s Jamie Hartman, details the singer traveling home to his loved ones, detailing how much he’s missed them; “you’re my passport home, my guiding light,” and “without you close, I can’t go on,” he confesses on the track. Cooper welcomes us home, making every listener feel special.
