RESERVOIR GIVES BACK
Another year, another chance to give back! As the Holiday season quickly approaches, we’re highlighting some of Reservoir’s greatest talents, all of whom have chosen to take their power and influence a step further, dedicating their time and efforts to a greater cause. From organizing resource drop offs to raising funds for those who need an extra hand, these artists hearts are as big as their voices.
Joey Bada$$
In the aftermath of two massive hurricanes that decimated the Caribbean and Southern parts of Florida, Joey Bada$$ sprung into action, organizing a charity concert. With himself and other Pro Era talents included in the lineup, the goal was simply to gather supplies to be donated to the families and people effected by these natural disasters. Joey announced the benefit concert, calling it “Support of Storm,” where he asked attendees to, instead of paying the price for admission, bring various hygienic, food, clothing, and household items that would be useful in the wake of this tragedy. Said Joey, “We will have a thank you party hosted by PRO ERA and special guests. NYC I look forward to showing our brother and sister cities how we can come together in support of them. All we need is love and unity.” In addition, Joey and Pro Era created a hurricane relief t-shirt, vowing to donate all proceeds towards victims of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Marie.
The concert was a success, as Joey took to Instagram, thanking the fans, where he stated, “Pro Era and I would like to thank all of you for contributing…It is so critical, especially in these challenging times, to remember that we inhabit a global community and to extend our help to those in need. We all came together…and in our efforts exceeded my expectations.”
2 Chainz
2 Chainz is arguably one of the hardest working rappers in the game. In the last two years, 2 Chainz participated in multiple philanthropic events though his foundation, including a charity basketball tournament, helping homeless veterans, and supporting local-Atlanta families. But with the holidays quickly approaching, he is bringing back his “Dabbing Santa” campaign for a third year in a row! With last year’s $2 million dollar success, the Atlanta rapper is hoping to double its income in this year’s fundraiser, where the proceeds will go to supporting families, disabled children, and as well as art education programs.
Releasing a new line of holiday merchandise, the signature “Dabbing Santa” sweaters are still available, as well as a new Trappin Santa. Posting several pictures of the holiday sweaters on Instagram, the Atlanta rapper’s “Dabbing Santa” line is set to change countless lives through the charity’s proceeds.
After starting his T.R.U Foundation in 2012, a charity set on supporting families in the Atlanta community, 2 Chainz has reached massive success with his annual Dabbing Santa holiday line, which in turn, gave aid to a family of eleven in need. Over his clothing line’s Instagram, the rapper stated, “We are using our platform to make a change in America.”
Offset
Honoring his late grandmother, Migos’ Offset raised $500,000 for a cancer awareness fund, where he helped organize a bowling event earlier last month. The Atlanta rapper teamed up with the American Cancer Society in order to provide education, detection, and access in underserved communities.
The artist’s grandmother was one of the few who encouraged his dreams of pursuing a rap career, long before his success streak took off, and as a thank you, Offset started this campaign to honor her memory. At the event, fellow big-named Atlanta celebrities attended, including Atlanta Falcons wide receivers Julio Jones and Justin Hardy, Atlanta Hawks teammates John Collins, Tyler Dorsey, and Quinn Cook, as well as famed music producer Metro Boomin. Together the stars did interviews and bowled with fans.
Offset spoke with The Undefeated, saying that he wants his fans to learn the importance of this charity, “Do it for the culture. I want the young folks to do it. Instead of those new Jordans, try to help somebody.” His goal is to show young fans that what they do matters, that their donations can make the different in saving a life. His passion to turn his words in actions is reflected though his mother, who also spoke on the need to education these lower income communities about early detection and protection.
Ina Wroldsen
Ina Wroldsen visited Rwanda last October, where she teamed up with Plan Norge, the Norwegian department of Plan International, an aid organization that focuses on fulfilling children’s rights, trying to better their schooling, healthcare, and protection in more than 50 countries.
While in Rwanda, Ina made several posts to her social media platforms where she spoke on her experiences within the country and her encounters with its people. In one post, Ina spoke of her meeting of a young woman, named Lille Bertie, who thanked her for helping take care of her sick child, which inspired her to write a song, “St Peter,” about it.
Visiting the country for ten days, the singer/songwriter worked on projects with Plan Norge, to improve the daily lives of children and empower young girls. Despite the efforts made by organizations such as Plan Norge, the living conditions are still struggling, especially for girls. Wroldsen, and others who were working with the organization, met with some of the girls who were taken out of school to manage their households, despite still being children, as well as some young girls and boys who are committed to spending their free time making life better for girls. After leaving Rwanda, Wroldsen said her experience changed her life, telling Plan Norge, “I will never be the same again.”
