NITIN SAWHNEY RELEASES NEW ALBUM ‘IMMIGRANTS’ FEAT. NICKI WELLS & SPEK COLLABS
Date:
Nitin Sawhney dropped his latest album Immigrants, today. The 20-track project is a sequel concept album to Sawhney’s 1999 Beyond Skin. Immigrants notably features a collaboration with Reservoir’s Nicki Wells on cut “Down The Road” also featuring YVA and Dhruv Sangari, along with the Reservoir EVP, International & Emerging Markets Spek featured track “Lifeline” with Rahel Debebe-Dessalegne. Regarding the album, iNews noted, “Given the album’s name, there is no question about its subject, as Sawhney mixes a range of global sounds into expansive, thought-provoking music. Driven by instances of racism in his own life, the record is peppered with interludes featuring upsetting news clips (a crowd shouting “Go back to your homes”), a wide range of collaborators and spoken-word recollections of real migrant experiences, which lend a deep level of narrative emotion… the result is an album that generates understanding and compassion without lecturing.”
