LUKE JAMES’ SELF TITLED ALBUM OUT NOW
Date:
Three years after wowing the industry with his falsetto-fortified single, “I Want You“, Luke James has released a self-titled full length album, available today. James’ “I Want You” producer and N.A.R.S. mentor Nate “Danja” Hills writes on five Luke James tracks:
Track 1: “Love XYZ”, the album’s opening track, features James’ rich vocal harmonies over a bed of digital arpeggios and low, full toms.
Track 5: At times the clear, solid piano foundation featured “The Run” is reminiscent of James’ original hit, but a few well-chosen percussive details give “The Run” a uniquely urban twist.
Track 7: Single “Exit Wounds” premiered earlier this month, and remains one of the most striking cuts on Luke James. Compositionally minimalist, much of “Exit Wounds” features a rich piano bed, James’ raw vocal performance, and a few percussive elements alone. Despite the relatively gentle arrangement, the chorus lyrics culminate in an unmistakably strong sentiment.
Track 8: Interlude “TimeX” throws a nod to R&B’s gospel roots while showcasing the genre’s ethereal new movement, à la Frank Ocean.
Track 10: “Insane” actually makes perfect sense, expertly blending a classic smooth-R&B groove with contemporary percussion and jazzy piano elements, all while leaving room to showcase James’ emotional vocals. Meanwhile, “Bombin’ Out” is peaceful as a dream, an interesting contrast to the title of the second half of this interlude.
Luke James is scheduled to play a release-night show at New York City venue S.O.B.’s, with continued touring in the States throughout October.
