JOEY ALEXANDER RELEASES ‘COUNTDOWN’ FEAT. STRAYHORN’S ‘CHELSEA BRIDGE’
Date:
Thirteen-year-old jazz pianist Joey Alexander releases his second full-length album, Countdown, featuring a cover of the Billy Strayhorn classic “Chelsea Bridge”. The release is Alexander’s second Strayhorn tribute, with the musician having covered “Lush Life” on his 2015 Grammy nominated debut album My Favorite Things. My Favorite Things reached #1 on Billboard‘s Jazz Albums Chart and topped iTunes’ Jazz Album chart the day after release, besting albums from Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, and Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga.
Alexander helped to celebrate Strayhorn’s centennial last year in a video interview elaborating on his deep connection to the jazz pioneer’s music.
