JAMES BAY RELEASES DEBUT ALBUM ‘CHAOS AND THE CALM’ WITH HELP FROM JAMIE HARTMAN
Date:
2015 British Critic’s Choice Award winner James Bay released his highly anticipated full-length debut album, Chaos and the Calm, in the States today. The album features the emotive acoustic ballad “Move Together”, written with Reservoir writer Jamie Hartman.
Describing Chaos and the Calm as “highly anticipated” is a bit of an understatement. Bay has created a frenzy in the few short years since the release of his first EP The Dark of The Morning in the Summer of 2013. Two more EPs, a supporting role on fellow European megastar Hozier’s North American tour, and a major label record deal later, it’s safe to say the world is more than ready for Bay’s full-length album debut. Taylor Swift is at least, as she hand-selected the crooner to support her on the European leg of her upcoming 1989 tour.
Praise is already rolling in for Chaos and the Calm, which topped the UK’s iTunes Top Albums chart upon its debut. Newsday predicts Grammy attention, citing Bay’s ability to combine classic rock influences with his trademark guitar-ballad repertoire.
Hartman and Bay’s work on “Move Together”, which was first released on The Dark of the Morning, remains as effective on today’s release as it did in helping move the needle for Bay back in 2013–the record exemplifies Bay at his best, with pure, stripped down vocals and raw acoustic guitar.
