YO-YO MA & THE SILKROAD ENSEMBLE RELEASE CHARITY COVER OF BILLY STRAYHORN’S “TAKE THE ‘A’ TRAIN”
Date:
The Silkroad Ensemble and Yo-Yo Ma teamed up today to release a stunning live performance of Billy Strayhorn’s iconic “Take the ‘A’ Train.” The performance, produced in partnership with SongAid, was recorded at UC Berkley’s Cal Performances.
Regarding the collaboration, Silkroad founder Yo-Yo Ma noted, “Silkroad is thrilled to be included in the SongAid campaign. Through the simple act of sharing music, we are supporting frontline workers, food pantries, small-scale farmers, and food chain workers — truly culture in action. Please join us by listening along, and help us to sustain this vital work.”
Billystrayhorn.com further elaborated on the cut commissioned by Reservoir, “At a time when New York has been brought to a halt by the COVID-19 pandemic, ‘Take the “A” Train’ celebrates the familiar sounds of NYC’s subway system that connects its vibrant neighborhoods.”
All streaming proceeds from the single are being donated to charity WhyHunger’s COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund.
