6 Women of Reservoir Who #MakeItHappen
Date:
March 8, 2015 was International Women’s Appreciation Day, a day to recognize the historical and everyday achievements of women around the world, as well as the need for social change to promote equality between genders. In the spirit of this year’s theme, here are six Reservoir women who #MakeItHappen!
1) MØ
Karen “MØ” Ørsted is one of the most innovative and inspiring rising stars in music today. Her first release, No Mythologies to Follow, received international acclaim and earned the Danish songstress a European Border Breakers Award. MØ’s influence is not limited to music, as she is also known as a fashion trendsetter. With numerous international accolades as a solo artist, MØ is also a master collaborator, writing tracks for Ariana Grande, and singing on the most recent Major Lazer release, “Lean On”.
2) Ida Corr
This Afro-European dance-pop star lives life by her “Corr Values”: love, integrity, power, honesty, respect, responsibility. Corr balances ideas of being the “perfect” woman with notions that being human implies being imperfect. One thing is certain: Ida Corr is the perfect woman for this list.
3) Ina Wroldsen
This Norwegian pop master is one of the most sought after writers in music. With multiple BMI Pop Awards and cuts by Shakira, Britney Spears, Cobra Starship, and James Arthur, Ina Wroldsen is truly a force in Top 40-ready pop. Her talents do not stop at songwriting, as she is a talented vocalist and active solo artist as well—her debut solo release, “Aliens (her er jeg)”, was recognized among Scandinavia’s hottest new exports earlier this year.
4) Sheryl Crow
Hailing from small-town Missouri, Sheryl Crow quickly became one of the most influential female voices in ’90s rock and pop music. Her smoky belt and blues-y songwriting style helped her became an international superstar on her own terms, with nine Grammys to show for it. With a catalogue of classics and 50 million records sold, Sheryl Crow helped establish women in contemporary rock music, and we thank her for that.
5) Sarah Barthel
As the voice of breakout indie-rock group Phantogram, Sarah Barthel is on top of the world. With her and Josh Carter’s edgy-ethereal songwriting style, Barthel has helped propel the duo to heights unseen by most acts in her genre. Plus, her and Carter’s innovative and collaborative nature make Phantogram a desirable partner for artists across seemingly unexpected genres.
6) Terri B!
With two Dance Club No.1s since the new year, Terri B!’s 2015 is only getting started.Terri Bjerre (PKA Terri B!) has one of the loudest voices in EDM today, and her soulful style is as infectious as it is unique. She is an international and domestic favorite whose originality is only rivaled by her work ethic and perseverance. Keep an eye out for her, because she’s headed for your iPod.
