When Reservoir songwriter Jamie Hartman first teamed up with rising blues artist Rag’N’Bone Man on the soulful single “Healed”, it perked up the ears of the industry. However, when their second collaboration, the blistering and powerful “Human”, dropped earlier this Summer, heads really began to turn for the British-born Rag’N’Bone Man, real name Rory Graham. The cut, being touted as his most powerful single yet, has already topped three charts worldwide and has helped Rag’N’Bone Man pick up scores of new fans at every turn. “Human” has taken international charts by storm since its official Columbia Records release in July, hitting #1 on the Official Charts in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland; the top 5 in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Denmark; and landing on no fewer than ten additional charts around the world. It currently sits at #1 on the iTunes Top 100 singles charts in four European territories, plus the Top 5 in three more. Listeners streaming the song on Spotify have placed it on the Viral 50 and Global 50 charts in six different countries. As if that weren’t enough action, the song continues to tear up the Shazam charts as fans research and tag it through the song-discovery app, landing the tune an appearance on eight of Shazam’s Top 100 lists around the world.
2. On Twitter
Rag’N’Bone Man is quickly racking up fans on social media, boasting a cool 15,000 followers on Twitter. Of those, the blues and soul singer can claim some celebrity admirers, including fellow soul singer Joss Stone, who tweeted that she used Shazam to discover “Human”, and celebrated TV host James Corden, who Tweeted about the song, “Already love this! Just exceptional”.
3. On TV
With “Human” already in everyone’s ears, Rag ’N’ Bone Man put a face to the tune on the small screen, belting out the cut live on the BBC’s Later…With Jools Holland, one of the UK’s most popular TV shows. Of the pivotal performance, Clash Music proclaimed that Rag ‘N’ Bone Man “set tongues wagging, with his strong, husky voice seeming to wrap the simplest of lines in the most profound of emotions.” With praise like that, we’re confident that more televised action is in Rag’N’Bone Man’s very near future. “Human” sets the scene to fuel the raw and emotional new trailer for Ava DuVernay’s 13th, a documentary that examines the history of mass incarceration in America within the context of slavery.
