CHANCE THE RAPPER’S ‘COLORING BOOK’ WINS BEST MIXTAPE AT BET HIP-HOP AWARDS
Date:
Chance the Rapper’s 2016 mixtape Coloring Book, which features the single “No Problem” featuring 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne, took home the Best Mixtape Award at this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards. This is the latest accolade for the rapper’s independent release, which debuted in the top 10 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart and earned the honor of being the first album in history to chart there solely on streaming activity. Given Coloring Book’s high praise this year, it is no surprise Chance The Rapper also picked up the award for Best New Hip-Hop Artist last night.
Additionally, rapper, producer, and media personality DJ Khaled picked up three awards last night, taking home honors for DJ, MVP, and Hustler of the Year. This has been quite a year for Khaled, as his latest album, Major Key, fueled by the success of lead single “For Free” featuring Drake, debuted #1 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart and was recently certified Gold by the RIAA. “For Free” features a sample of the Reservoir Too $hort title “Blow The Whistle”, while Reservoir writer 2 Chainz also appears on album track “Work For It”, a collaboration with fellow rappers Big Sean and Gucci Mane.
