‘CHEEK TO CHEEK’ WINS BEST TRADITIONAL POP GRAMMY
Date:
Lady Gaga’s name has been on the tips of the industry’s tongue for the past several months, and for once it’s because of a traditional turn the pop star took.
While Gaga’s infamous edge is still duly intact–a flick through her Instagram yields a healthy documentation of semi-nudity, avant-garde makeup, and the occasional sex prop–it was Gaga’s partnership with legendary jazz standards vocalist Tony Bennett that set the industry a-buzz as of late. It’s a fitting, if once unexpected, feat, then, that Gaga and Bennett’s Cheek to Cheek collaboration earned them a Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album Grammy award at last night’s ceremony.
In particular, Gaga’s shimmering Cheek to Cheek rendition of “Lush Life”, the hallmark song of the late Billy Strayhorn, strikes a chord with Reservoir, as the team continues to celebrate the composer’s centennial birth year alongside his survining estate.
Bennett and Gaga’s representative teams accepted the duo’s award on their behalf, below. The pair of artists did take the stage at one point during the awards show, performing their album’s title track.
