RESERVOIR ACQUIRES RIGHTS TO CATALOG OF MULTI-PLATINUM COUNTRY SONGWRITER, PRODUCER, AND SINGER KERRY KURT PHILLIPS
Date:
Reservoir Media, Inc. (NASDAQ: RSVR), an award-winning independent music company, today announced a new acquisition for publishing rights to the catalog of multi-Platinum-selling country songwriter, producer, and singer Kerry Kurt Phillips. Phillips has had an extensive career as a songwriter, earning six #1 singles and contributing to 75 Gold and Platinum albums, accounting for over 45 million record sales.
His catalog includes Joe Diffie’s “Pickup Man,” which spent four weeks at #1 on Hot Country Songs, and Tim McGraw’s #2 Hot Country Song “Down on the Farm.” In addition, Phillips collaborated on other hit songs by Diffie like “Is It Cold In Here” and “Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox” which reached #5 and #3 on the Hot Country Songs chart, respectively. Other major hits include “Do You Want Fries With That” and “Maybe We Should Just Sleep On It” off Tim McGraw’s multi-Platinum-selling albums Live Like You Were Dying (2004) and All I Want (1995). Phillips has also collaborated with other country legends like George Jones, Billy Ray Cyrus, Tracy Byrd, Craig Morgan, and many others.
Phillips started playing guitar in grade school, when he wrote his first song, “School Bus Blues,” a parody of the Johnny Cash hit “Folsom Prison Blues.” His prolific career has earned him numerous awards from ASCAP, the Country Music Association, Country Radio Broadcasters, and more. Phillips has also worked on Grammy-winning music like “When You’re In Love” off George Strait’s Country Album of the Year Troubadour.
Phillips’ catalog has been featured in countless synch placements. To date, his co-writes have appeared across the Atlanta Olympics opening ceremony, Super Bowl commercials, campaigns for major brands such as Pepsi, Ford, General Motors, Applebee’s, the NFL, and the PGA, along with numerous motion pictures and television series.
On the deal, Phillips said, “These songs are some of my most faithful and favorite ‘ole dawgs, and it was important to find the right home for them. Reservoir worked hard to make this deal happen, and I know they will work just as hard to take care of them and help them continue to be loved all over again.”
Reservoir Executive Vice President of Creative John Ozier also commented, “Kerry Kurt has been one of Nashville’s top writers since the 90s, and I have personally been a fan of his for a long time. We are proud to be integrating Kerry Kurt’s hit catalog into our country catalog and look forward to continuing showcasing his legacy.”
