2 CHAINZ TAKES FOUR ASCAP RHYTHM & SOUL AWARDS, EXTENDS DEAL WITH RESERVOIR
Date:
Reservoir writer Tauheed “2 Chainz” Epps earned four awards at last night’s ceremony for the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers’ 27th annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards. Named ASCAP’s Rhythm & Soul Songwriter of the Year in 2013, 2 Chainz was recognized at this year’s event for the outstanding performance of his trademark hit “I’m Different”, BET Best Collaboration award winner “F**kin’ Problems”, and Platinum-certified singles “Bandz A Make Her Dance” and “Rich As F**k”. Reservoir recently extended its deal with 2 Chainz, where the rapper first signed in 2012, in an agreement that sees the company co-publish Chainz’ successful sophomore album Based On A T.R.U. Story II and forthcoming release B.O.A.T.S. III, in addition to his existing catalog of over 300 titles and counting.
Since his 2012 solo debut, 2 Chainz has developed into one of the industry’s most versatile and in-demand rappers. Over the past year alone, Chainz has lent verses to Jason Derulo’s triple-Platinum, international #1 single “Talk Dirty”; the Nut Job trailer-featured “Gold Rush” with Clinton Sparks and fellow hit-maker Macklemore; and the official remix of Billboard Dance/Electronic Streaming chart-topper “Turn Down for What” with DJ Snake, Lil Jon, Juicy J, and French Montana. Chainz took on these features and several more while supporting recent singles “Feds Watching” and “Used 2”; appearing in RadioShack’s #DestroyBadSound campaign, backed by the B.O.A.T.S. II cut “I Do It”; releasing Freebase, a DIY, direct-to-consumer mixtape EP; and beginning work on B.O.A.T.S. III.
Between 2 Chainz’ insatiable work ethic and continued commercial success, the continuance of the relationship was ideal for Reservoir SVP of Creative & Business Development Faith Newman, who orchestrated both Chainz’ 2012 deal and the 2014 extension.
“2 Chainz is one of the hardest working artists I have ever had the privilege to work with,” Newman says. “This is an artist who, just after leaving the Grammy awards in 2013, didn’t want to party or do anything but go back to the studio to work on B.O.A.T.S. II. He truly deserves his meteoric rise, and I’m thrilled that Reservoir will continue to have the opportunity to support his talent and success.”
2 Chainz looks forward to maintaining the partnership as well. “Working with Reservoir has been a great experience,” the rapper says. “I know they have my back, and they bring new opportunities to the table. Faith Newman and Reservoir are the team.”
