2 CHAINZ, SHAKIRA AT THE 2014 BBMAS
Date:
Every year since May of 2011, Billboard has been hosting its own Music Awards ceremony, where the industry leader in music chart aggregation celebrates the acts that make the most of the year behind them. At this year’s ceremony, Reservoir had no shortage of artists who received category wins, with catalog performers Avicii, Justin Timberlake, and Marc Anthony each taking the top spot in a number of categories. Avicii was up against tough competition in the electronic segment, but won over heavyweights like Daft Punk in the Top Dance/Electronic Song category, with the song “Wake Me Up.” Timberlake had an awe-inspiring number of wins, receiving the #1 spot in seven out of the eleven categories in which he was nominated. Marc Anthony dominated the Latin sections, where the “I Swear” performer took home category awards for Top Latin Artist, Top Latin Song, and Top Latin Album.
Following a hologram-assisted performance by the late King of Pop Michael Jackson, Reservoir artist 2 Chainz took to the Music Awards stage, where the rapper appeared alongside Jason Derulo to perform their global hit, “Talk Dirty,” which has amassed over 180 million views on YouTube. Shakira inspired the audience with a glistening performance of her heroic ballad, “Empire,” penned by Reservoir writer Ina Wroldsen.
